See what I bought

Ok, here's the scoop on the estate sale Friday.

I was disappointed in the sale. I did get 2 items though. There was really nothing that I liked or that really caught my eye that I really had to have. There were a few pieces of silver, some crystal, odd and end pots and dishes.

The story I could hear as I walked thru the house was that the 2 daughters and 1 son was left with the house. They already took all they wanted and left items they did not want. The youngest daughter was going to move in and live in the house. The couple who owned the house were very prominent in the town long ago. They owned a shoe store and ladies clothing store downtown. That was years ago. The couple lived into their 90's.
Now to what you really want to hear. I did get 2 items. This musical jewelry box.

This jewelry box is all wood with this victorian girl on the front. The inside is red velvet with 3 compartments. I don't know the tune that the music plays. But it is pretty.

And this pretty plate.
This plate has a completely even flat top surface. It will make a great cake plate. The stamp on the bottom is HOUSEHOLD INSTITUTE and RHYTHM ROSE PATTERN.

And I did get to meander thru the house and look. I always like looking at houses anyway so the morning wasn't a total lost.

  1. I really like the plate and the box is cute also. I know it had to be disappointing to not find much. I once went to a promentant Drs home for a yard sale, I just knew they would have some good stuff, nope just junk, nothing really that anyone wanted. Go figure.

  2. The plate is pretty - - and u.r. rite - it will make a pretty cake plate. The jewelry box is also pretty - and you can tell it's from another 'era' long ago. Nice to keep. I like old houses, too - I like to stroll thru old houses and imagine peoples lives long ago.

  3. Ah, I've been waiting to see what you found! Sweet plate!
...lived into their 90s. Now that's something nice to find! I always enjoy finding an old story. Too bad they didn't have some old dresses from their store in their attic, eh?

Have a great day, Gin! ♥

  4. It is disappointing when that happens. But it is interesting, like you said, to walk through old houses. I think the plate is really pretty and the box definitely looks old and unusual.

  6. I rarely find anything good at estate sales. I think it's because the people around here actually know what they have and price it at least semi-accordingly. lol.

I do pretty good at garage sales and thrift stores though.

I do like that rose plate. Not as much as the dogwoods, but I do like it. :)
