Cutie pie

Have found nothing at yard sales,or estate sales, or at the downtown shops lately. But I did find this cutie pie when I got to work one morning recently. He was dodging traffic in and out of the street. So I rescued him. He was very friendly. I brought him inside, gave him water, took a picture of him and posted a sign outside hoping to find his owner. One co-worker told me if I would just open the door he would probably run home. But I couldn't let him back out in the traffic.

Several hours passed and I still had the dog. And to make things more difficult, the building air conditioner had been broken all week. So there was only a fan blowing hot air. This was during the last few weeks when it was 101 degrees. So it was hot, stuffy, and uncomfortable. I would have to take him home with me for the night if I was not successful in finding his owner.

One customer came in and saw the dog and knew I was looking for its owner. About 30 minutes later this older gentleman came walking in and said he heard I had his dog. He had been out walking the streets looking for his dog and just so happened to ask the customer who had been in earlier and she told him we had found a dog.

A happy ending to my story. The dogs name is Drover. The people had just moved in this area and Drover was not settling in very well. I could see their house from our building. I guess that's why Drover kept going to the door and looking across the street. Maybe I should have opened the door and let him run home.

See what I bought

Ok, here's the scoop on the estate sale Friday.

I was disappointed in the sale. I did get 2 items though. There was really nothing that I liked or that really caught my eye that I really had to have. There were a few pieces of silver, some crystal, odd and end pots and dishes.

The story I could hear as I walked thru the house was that the 2 daughters and 1 son was left with the house. They already took all they wanted and left items they did not want. The youngest daughter was going to move in and live in the house. The couple who owned the house were very prominent in the town long ago. They owned a shoe store and ladies clothing store downtown. That was years ago. The couple lived into their 90's.

Now to what you really want to hear. I did get 2 items. This musical jewelry box.

This jewelry box is all wood with this victorian girl on the front. The inside is red velvet with 3 compartments. I don't know the tune that the music plays. But it is pretty.

And this pretty plate.

This plate has a completely even flat top surface. It will make a great cake plate. The stamp on the bottom is HOUSEHOLD INSTITUTE and RHYTHM ROSE PATTERN.

And I did get to meander thru the house and look. I always like looking at houses anyway so the morning wasn't a total lost.

Wait and see

Every Thursday I read the classified ads in this towns tiny tiny newspaper. I look for the garage sale ads. And tonight's paper has one listed that I cannot miss. It is an Estate Sale at 601 Pike Street. It list antique furniture, crystal, silver, china, linens, clocks, books, art, etc, etc, and many other great things.

It begins at 8am. You can bet I will be there waiting at the door before 8am. I will take my camera so wait and see what I get to show you!!!!

Vintage Thingy Thursday

Another Vintage Thingy Thursday, hosted by Suzanne at Coloradolady.
I have a new item. It is new to me. But is old and probably vintage. I got it at a flea market/antique store on a recent mad rush lunch hour visit. It is a four piece cup and dessert plate set.If you look closer you can see the little rim inset for the cup to sit in the dessert plate. And see the slight handle on one side of the plate?It is a pink dogwood blossom design. The bottom is stamped UCAG CO CHINA. (Not made in China, but stating it is china.) The dessert plate is in the shape of a shell with a scallop edge. This will be the first of this kind to add to my dish collection.

Just finished

This apron was just finished up for a swap and sent out in the mail to it's new owner.
It's for a Hot Mama Fiesta Apron Swap hosted by Val in celebration of Cinco deMayo. Her rules were 1 apron, 1 Mexican recipe, and 1 other Mexican. I went with a bright orange, green, and yellow apron, 2 recipe cards, a box of Hot Tamales candies. I know, I know, the Hot Tamales candies were not very original at all! But I think the apron is kind of cute and bright for a Fiesta!!

Then a few weeks back I sent out a swap for Winter Baubles & Basics. The theme was to send kitchen towels and other items to refresh your partners kitchen. My partner wanted vintage with red, beige, and toile. Her is the stash I sent her.
I added lace to red kitchen towels. I made her a red toile print apron with matching lace from the kitchen towels. Also in her package was 1 rose flowered cup/saucer, red salad bowl, several kitchen gadgets, and a little salad recipe book I found at an outlet for $1, and a cotton kitchen towel with embroidery on it. She was so excited and surprised at all the goodies!!!

I received in return from her a set of bright colorful orange, green and white strip kitchen towels, a cute orange metal collander, a vintage glass taper candle stick, and a few other kitchen goodies. I have lost the picture of my goodies, but I loved my whole package too.

R & R

I put myself on R & R (rest & relaxation) for about a month now. Not much rest going on, but just trying to relax. Still been busy going to work, visiting the kids, and enjoying the spring time that is here.

I kind of put the lap top out of sight, even though I did steal a few peeks at my favorite blogs and even signed up for a few swaps.

Of course I still hit the antique and flea markets every week. I got a few little cute things. I got a yard bunny for myself. You've probably seen one like this before - it's a bunny standing up pulling a wagon. The wagon holds a flower. He is cute and will be around the back porch for Easter. I also got a few items to send in a swap I was in.

I can't believe how much more time I've had during my R & R to house clean and cook. My time that was usually spent on the computer was used so much more constructive. I have cleaned the house spic and span, tried some new dishes, and started back on my evening walk. With no computer time and daylight savings time I have accomplished a lot!!!

But I am glad to be back blogging. If you missed me, thank you for your thoughts!!!

Love on Wednesday's #4

I love February --because of --- Valentines Day, Mardi Gras, and My Birthday!!.
My birthday is Friday. Since I was a young teen I have shared my birthday with a family member. She was born on my birthday. Her name is Bobbie. We are technically cousins, but grew up together and are really closer as sisters. So ever year since then we have shared a birthday cake with both our names on it, shared the birthday party, and some must think we are twins because we are given identical presents at the birthday party. This has been going on for 40 years. Except a couple years when she lived out of state. No complaints here though, because I really like it.

The last 3 years we have added a threesome to our party. My sweet beautiful daughter (she is my daughter-in-law) Julie's birthday is March 2nd. So we have added her to our birthday celebration. Her name is added to the cake, she shares the party, and some of her gifts are identical to ours. She will be 23, so she does get some younger oriented gifts than me or Bobbie.

It's always a blast to celebrate a birthday, but when you have the tradition like we have it's even more of a blast. And I love it!!

Gifts Galore

After being gone for several days, I came home to find some packages just for me. A package from Val. We had been talking about mardi gras fabric and I think I kind of gave her the wrong idea about something. And this is what she sent me. I love it. So cute and so very bright. Mardi gras fabric with masks and beads on it. And a mardi gras bead too. She's my blogger friend from Louisiana and I sent her one too. So we can do Mardi Gras!!
Then I opened a package from Kaye . So cute too. A donut with sprinkles!! the donut is a pin cushion. And the sprinkles are colored pins. How cute is that? And she sent me a wreath and holly pattern with coordinating fabric to make it. Kaye was so thoughtful. She won my giveaway in Whirl Into Winter and just loved her gift that she wanted to give me something.

Also, I have sent out my PIF gifts. They are hot pot pads. Three people will be getting a package in the mail from me!!

A day down home

I got to spend a few days down home. It was enjoyable. But not for a good reason. Peg had surgery. It was scheduled for an out patient, but it turned into 2 days. I went to take her to the hospital, stay with her, then bring her home.

So while at the hospital, I took some pictures of her 2 day stay. It was kind of like a vacation for me. And I told her I was going to do a story of her hospital stay so I could take pictures of everything. = I want show all of them, but just a few to give you an idea. This is her waiting before surgery.
She had to have a few test the next day, so I took a quick trip across the street to this:
She even told the nurses that she loved the food. No one understood quite why!!
She had visitors.
She got some flowers.

and finally we got to go home.
Her surgery was suppose to be out-patient gall bladder surgery. There was complications is why she stayed an extra day and a half.

She is doing fine. And I am glad I took pictures for 2 days. We enjoyed the laughs. I will leave the really good pictures for her to post. I don't want her to be mad at me for posting some that are really outrageously funny. I really had to refrain myself from posting those. Go here to see if she posted any on her blog!
