It's another Vintage Thingie Thursday over at Coloradolady's. Check her out for more participants with their vintage thingies.
This is my 2nd grade elementary reader. I've had it all these years. I don't know how I kept from turning it in at the end of school so many years ago. But it's been in my childhood stuff every since.
See my name and the date published 1961.I remember the words so well.
I remember Run Spot Run better. But I guess that was another reader in another grade.
Do you remember these readers?

What a neat keep sake. Boy times have really changed haven't they?
ReplyDeletewow! I cant believe you still have that.
ReplyDeleteI remember these readers, we were using them in the 1970s when I was in elementary school.
ReplyDeleteI see that you didn't steal this just from your town, but from the STATE of LA! There's probably a bench warrant out for you! LOL
I love vintage books...the graphics, the messages.....Lovely post. Take care~
ReplyDeleteI love everything about vintage books, and yours is especially cool. Happy VTT and have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this reader-brought back memories! :) thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHow did you know then to keep it?
ReplyDeleteThat's what amazes me with so many posts...where did the wisdom come from to know to keep a potential, future treasure???
Awesome post. Loved it.
I remember the old readers....things have really changed since I was in school. I look at my granddaughter's homework and I'm amazed at what they are learning, so young.
ReplyDeleteI just love your book, this is so cute and looking at it brings back grade school memories. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love old books and children books are the best. I too have some books from school. My readers I bought at a vintage book store. They were like the ones we read. I am always on the look out for books I had as a child.
ReplyDeleteyes I remember books like that! When I was growing up in the70's we had books like that. I remember the John and Jane ones :-)
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of old books. Your reader is very special. Keep it forever!
ReplyDeleteAmazing ! - - I never knew you had it - - Your handwriting was very good for a 2nd grader - - You should display the book in your home - your future grandchildren will love it -
ReplyDeleteSo - what other 'school things' do you have?
If your reading teacher was still living - I would tell her ! (ha ha)
What a fantastic treasure! I kept mine as well, but somewhere through the years, it was lost :0(
ReplyDeleteI love how the "mom" and "dad" look so "dressed up".
If you ever run for public office they are going to nail you for this!!! only kidding... maybe!
ReplyDeleteHappy Vintage Thingies Thursday

Blessings to You!

I remember this one and Spot,
ReplyDeleteDick and Jane. Repetition is much
better than memorization for reading. Do you have the SRA packets
too? LOL
Oh you are so lucky to still have that. How wonderful to touch something now that you touched as a small girl.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures from those early readers. A simpler time. Thanks for the memory walk.
ReplyDeleteHahaha...run spot run...what lovely memories!! I love my old readers too :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you have kept it all these years.
ReplyDeleteMornin, Gin! I only remember Dick, Jane and Sally. They them in the libraries now and i was amazed how many of the stories and pictures came back to me!! ♥
ReplyDeleteI ADORE old readers! I remember Dick and Jane...oh how I WISH I had one of those (original)
ReplyDeleteI remember Dick and Jane so clearly and have several books I have saved over the years.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if the school library cop will ever turn up at your door, looking for this book, like he did on Seinfeld. :) It's so great that you still have this book though, I love the illustrations.
ReplyDeleteOh my, Run Spot Run, see Spot run....
ReplyDeletewe will never forget those will we?
